It begins with an idea.

This site is a collection of various projects and work by Creative Director, John Durrant.

I haven’t included everything of course! And I hope it gives you a flavour of what I’m up to. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some incredibly talented people, which I hope to credit as much as possible.

I’m a Grammy nominated film maker and multi-award winning film, television designer and virtual reality director, with BAFTA and Royal Television Society award recognitions, amongst others. My work has appeared at Beijing, Venice, COPDOX and SXSW festivals.

My previous incarnations include Head of Graphics at the BBC and Creative Director at two Independent companies I started; BDH Design & Direction and Academy 7 Productions.

I began my career at Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth in London, then onto MTV Television and Diverse Productions. I worked on Network 7 ‘Youth’ programmes and Dispatches - C4’s proudly independent documentary strand. I then headed up graphics at BBC in Bristol, known for it’s renowned Natural History Unit and Factual documentary output.

I’ve directed work for all of the UK’s major broadcasters, made commercials and even party political films for Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and the British Labour Party.

I’m also a musician and composer - creating ambient sketches and film scores, combining piano, cello and field recordings, which can be found at johndurrantcomposer.com

Currently I’m hacking musical boxes for fun.

I was born on the Isle of Man and grew up in and around Stoke, Manchester and Liverpool in the UK’s North West. I’m currently living in Bristol and Hay on Wye on the Welsh Border.
